Whole School Turkey Dinner

Each year the students of LCS gather in the gym to enjoy a delicious turkey dinner with all the fixings. We were pleased to have the Pre-primary students and staff join us this year! There were many smiling faces!

This is made possible by folks in our commnity who generously volunteer their time and hard work to prepare and plate the food. The grade 5 students showed great leadership skills and did a wonderful job serving the students and guests. Many thanks to the Lions who made the LCS turkey dinner a success once again this year! The students and staff at LCS look forward to this every year.

Primary Registration for 2019-2020

Primary Registration for 2019-2020 If you have a child or know of a child in our area who will be 5 years of age on or before December 31, 2019, please contact the school to pre-register him/her for school. We are beginning to plan for staffing and resources necessary for the next school year.

Food Bank Donations

Food Bank Donations Every year at this time we ask that families, who wish to, send in non-perishable items that we will donate to our local food bank. This collection will continue until Dec. 14th. Thank you!

Breakfast With Santa

We are happy to report that once again our Annual Breakfast with Santa was a huge success! It’s always so good to see new, current and previous LCS families coming together to support our students and school.

We appreciate all of our volunteers that helped make it so successful.

The total raised at this year’s Breakfast With Santa was $5,000.00. Wowser! What a great day it was! Congratulations to our Winners!

Winter Weather is Here!!

How does AVRCE share “snow day” school cancellation information?

Winter weather is here, so it’s important to be ready for possible school cancellations due to weather or road conditions. You can prepare by having a back-up plan in place for these events, and making sure your contact information is up-to-date with your child’s school in order to receive automatic text/email cancellation notices through the PowerSchool Alert system.

AVRCE also runs a system called NotifyMe, so grandparents, childcare providers and other school community members can sign up to receive school cancellation texts/emails. Parents/guardians do not need to sign up for NotifyMe.

*Please note, AVRCE will be refreshing the NotifyMe subscription list to reduce duplicate messages and to make sure parents/guardians are receiving important notices only through PowerSchool Alerts. Other school community members who have signed up to NotifyMe will continue to receive notices and will not be affected by this refresh.

School cancellations are also announced via:

-          www.avrce.ca

-          Twitter @AVRCE_NS

-          AVRCE phone line, 902.538.4600 or 1.800.850.3887

-          Local media: AVR network, Magic 94.9, CBC Radio 1 Halifax, CTV Morning Live Atlantic

What does “bus driver discretion” mean?

When AVRCE announces “bus driver discretion,” this means that road conditions are generally good, but some roads may be unplowed or slippery. A school bus driver may choose not to travel these roads if they think it isn’t safe to do so. When this happens, the school is notified and will try to contact families on the affected road(s). If a bus doesn’t travel a particular road before school, it will not travel that road after school.
